We had a good day overall. I unfortunately have a terrible sinus headache and am ready to go get some supper and rest for the night, so I am going to try to make this short and just hit the highlights quickly.
Alegria's bilirubin was down to 6, so we are completely done with the bililights now.
She is increasingly more alert and active which is great to see!
We were able to try to bottle feed one feeding today with the help of the speech pathologist. She assessed Alegria's ablility to bottle feed and things went much better today than Saturday. Alegria was able to drink 20 cc (of her 50 cc feeding) from the haberman bottle without the speech pathologist assisting to express the milk. So we will get to try one bottle feeding each day now. Alegria did well, but did forget to breath with sucking, so we will have to monitor that while she eats.
We had been hearing numerous different plans from numerous doctors and specialists as far as what was needed to be able to bring Alegria home, but today we actually discussed all of that with the neonatalogist (who is basically her primary doctor while we are here). He basically told us he saw no need for the special carseat bed or the apnea machine which we had been told we might need which was great to hear.
Also the repeat ECHO is scheduled for tomorrow. The cardiologist will look at this and then come in and assess her on Wed. This will determine if she is strong enough for the "surgery" to make the mold for the obturator. If she is strong enough for surgery, we will probably remain here until that can be completed. If she is not, the neonatalogist was willing to consider sending her home to grow stronger for a couple weeks and then rechecking the ECHO. He also made it sound as though all of the issues we are seeing in the heart and lungs should resolve with time (except the bicuspid valve).
So overall, a very encouraging day. Al and I also got to enjoy lunch at an authentic Mexican restaurant which I always enjoy!

Three of our grandchildren spent quite a bit of time in Ft.Wayne Lutheran. My son and his wife were very happy with the care received and said they are very good with helping financially if that is a concern as it was for them.
