Home Sweet Home...

There is no place like home!

Well Alegria did well during the procedure, but recovering from the anesthesia was a bit rougher time. We had about 3 difficult hours for both baby and mom after she woke up from the anesthesia. She was drugged, very hungry, very upset, and full of mucous when she arrived at her room in the PICU which did not add up to a good combination. Her color was honestly the worst I have seen it. One of the nurses wanted to immediately put her on oxygen, but the anesthesiologist suggested what she needed was to be settled down and her color and oxygen saturation would then return to normal. I was very thankful he was in the room because instead of putting her on oxygen, they let me hold her and settle her down. So then I spent the next few hours suctioning her out frequently and yet trying to keep her as calm as possible. By about 10 pm last night, both of us had settled down and rested well through the night. Her oxygen saturation stayed in the high 90's through the night. She had a slightly rougher time today, but things still went well and we were discharged around 4 this afternoon. Both Alegria and Mom were ready to be home. Ali has been resting quietly ever since arriving home, and I will be joining her shortly. Thank you all again for your continued thoughts and prayers! I cannot begin to describe how appreciated they have been!

Next Tuesday we will head back to Ft. Wayne to have the obturator (prosthesis) actually fitted, and then hopefully Alegria will be able to work towards taking all her feedings from the bottle.

The plastic surgeon is tentatively sheduling the lip repair for the end of April/beginning of May. He would like Alegria to be at least 10 lbs before the next surgery.
