Alegria had an ECHO and cardiology appointment today. Due to some scheduling issues, we were only able to get a preliminary report as the cardiologist has not actually read the ECHO himself yet, but based on the information he received from the technician, Alegria's heart has shown vast improvement! The hole between the upper chambers (PFO) has completely closed. The hole between the lower chambers of the heart (VSD) has also completely closed. The blood vessel connecting the aorta and pulmonary which is supposed to close shortly after birth (PDA) is now described by the cardiologist as VERY tiny (less than 1 mm), and the cardiologist expects it to completely close by her 1st birthday. Her abnormal heart valve is not causing her heart to work any harder than usual!
I am just so excited, thankful, and encouraged! Her heart is doing very well! Our next appointment with the cardiologist isn't for another 6 months!
It was also fun to watch her during the ECHO today (although a bit challenging) She kept grabbing the doppler, the cord, and the technician's hands while she was trying to do the ECHO. Ali also got her hands into the conductive gel a couple of times. It is just really enjoyable to see her so active and curious :-)
